ProtoVibing

METHODOLOGY

The ProtoVibing methodology: practice it today.

Five phases. Real customer interviews. A written decision rule before you ever ship code. You don’t need our app to start running it. Here’s the playbook, free, no signup required.

CONTEXT

Built on what worked. Powered by AI workflows that unlock what no founder could do before.

The validation frameworks founders reach for most earned their credibility through years of real-world use. Each was designed for a different context: larger teams, longer timelines, or different goals. ProtoVibing is built for the gap none of them were designed to fill: a solo founder, an AI toolkit, and weeks instead of months.

Double Diamond

2004 · Design Council (UK)

Built for: Multi-disciplinary design and innovation teams in large organizations

Gave the world a shared language for design process: diverge to discover, converge to define, diverge to develop, converge to deliver. It made design thinking accessible to non-designers and established that understanding the right problem before building the right solution are two distinct phases.

Gap for founders

Built for teams with months and dedicated research budgets. The empathy-first, human-only ideation model assumes you can run weeks of discovery before touching a solution. Few founders have that runway. It also has no mechanism for pre-committing to a decision before the data comes in, which makes it easy to rationalize any result.

Where ProtoVibing goes further

Structured phases with clear artifacts at each gate. The principle that defining the right problem is distinct from building the right solution.

Lean Startup

2011 · Eric Ries

Built for: Early-stage startup teams trying to find product-market fit

Replaced "build it and they will come" with Build-Measure-Learn. The MVP concept shifted the industry away from big-bang launches and toward iterative learning. It gave founders permission to ship something imperfect in service of finding out if the bet was real.

Gap for founders

The feedback loop is well-defined but the decision rule is not. "Pivot or persevere" is under-specified: it tells you a decision exists but not how to make it honestly. In practice, founders build MVPs, collect ambiguous signals, and rationalize their original hypothesis. The method is also build-first, which can mean weeks of engineering before a single customer conversation.

Where ProtoVibing goes further

Tight loops over comprehensive plans. The disposable prototype as a learning artifact, not a product.

Jobs-to-be-Done

~2016 (codified) · Clayton Christensen, Tony Ulwick

Built for: Product strategists and market researchers segmenting mature markets

Reframed customer understanding around behavior and motivation rather than demographics. Asking "what job is the customer hiring this for?" surfaces the functional and emotional work the product does, not just the features it has. This lens produces sharper customer profiles and better hypotheses than any survey.

Gap for founders

JTBD is a research lens, not a process. It tells you how to think about the customer but not what to do with that understanding across a full validation loop. Applied alone, it can produce deep insight that never gets tested against real behavior. That is a different way of staying in the building.

Where ProtoVibing goes further

The named-customer test. Every ProtoVibing hypothesis requires a specific functional job, a specific current workaround, and a specific change claim, all drawn directly from the JTBD lens.

Stingray Model

~2025 · Board of Innovation

Built for: Corporate innovation teams at large enterprises running AI-assisted concept development

The first major framework to treat AI as a co-pilot throughout the process, not a tool bolted on at the end. Its Train-Develop-Iterate structure acknowledges that AI-led ideation consistently outperforms human-only ideation on idea quality and breadth, and that synthetic testing can narrow a solution set before committing to real-world research.

Gap for founders

Optimized for scale and organizational complexity. The "Train" stage assumes a team with the resources to build custom LLM models and feed proprietary enterprise data. The focus on exponential ideation and synthetic consumer behavior is powerful at company scale but can produce a massive solution set that a solo founder has no clear way to prioritize down from.

Where ProtoVibing goes further

AI as a first-class collaborator at every phase, not an optional add-on. Speed and sufficiency over comprehensiveness.

ProtoVibing

What ProtoVibing adds that none of them do.

Every framework above contributed something real to how founders think about validation. ProtoVibing is not a synthesis of them. It's a purpose-built system for a context none of them anticipated: a solo founder with AI capabilities that change what one person can execute in a week.

What's new is the combination, and two additions that don't exist in any predecessor. First: the decision rule is written and locked before the first customer interview, not after. This single constraint eliminates the most common failure mode in founder validation, which is reading politeness as signal. Second: the loop closes with a written iterate-or-commit decision witnessed by advisors. Accountability isn't a feature; it's load-bearing structure.

The result is a flywheel, not a stage-gate process. Each loop tightens the bet, carries forward its artifacts, and feeds directly into the next. A founder who runs three loops in six weeks learns more about their customer than a team that spent six months in a corporate innovation lab.

When you’re ready to run loops with your team and a guided agent suite, get started.
